Wegen Picks
updated March 2010

Hands-down the closest in clarity, tone and durability of a genuine Tortoise Shell pick.
There's no arguing that Tortoise shell is the only material that produces crystal clear, natural tones from any string instrument -- regardless of the make or model, type of string, etc.

A well-kept secret composite sculpting material developed by Wegen is the key... and all picks are handmade by an amazing inventor/artist/sculptor/humanitarian Michel Wegen in Lochem, The Netherlands.

The Wegen pick material is arguably the only synthetic plectrum on the market to date that passes the Tortoise shell "drop test." That's an audio test where you drop a real Tortoise shell pick and any other pick on a hard surface. Other plectrum makers are producing fine products (Blue Chip, Tortis, Clayton, Starpics, etc). But when all is said and done... they do not win the "audio drop test". Mainly due to being acrylic, acetate, poly ? , nylon/delrin, gemstones, ceramics, glass and various natural by-products from animal hooves to bones. Those products that do well in the drop test, ultimately produce annoying clicks when striking the strings.

Take the time to compare differences in sound & tone of any pick vs Tortoise shell. T-shell is relatively bright and "clicky" sounding. Yet, unlike other plectrum makers that claim to resemble the qualities of tortoise shell, the audible 'click' is not apparent when you strike the strings of your instrument with Wegen product. The Wegen is so similar to T-shell it is scary.

All sizes & styles available...and Michel even offers to make any Custom Pick of your own design for you at no extra cost! Extremely reasonable prices and no shipping cost. Buy direct from Michel Wegen himself (at the web link above) and save.

If your preference is the clear, natural tone of a pick gliding across your strings then these beauties are for you. HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.

Disclaimer: We have no 'horse' in this race.
However we do continue to experiment with every new product made -- and there are hundreds of them.
